Why do people think peace implies a boring sameness
The cosmos where we live is composed of opposites
We will never have everyone thinking the same way
Nor would we ever even want to, if the truth be told
But opposition is no way required to equal violence
On and off, hot and cold, whatever you may imagine
Nor must weapons, greed, intolerance lead us to war
Still, when they do, destruction unimaginable occurs
Contemplating the long view, we are simply children
Our toys may end us, though neither fate nor destiny
Hope for peace may be a fool’s desire or just a dream
Words alone will never end or save the test that’s us
Small tribes helped us cope, prosper, survive safely
Though as we grew these benefits began to dwindle
Somehow, we enshrined the worst and lost the best
Time we tried out the opposite, just like all the rest
