The Night Mare ~ Philip Brent
Everything you are about to hear or read is true
Whether the stories are about me or about you
How should we tell these stories so they are real
And, not some huckster’s wild and fanciful spiel
I believe we must always trust ourselves, our gut
I think most folk are happy where they are, but
They want adventure, a quest to transform them
Explore uncharted lands to gain the sacred gem
They dream of the gift, treasure, without the slog
If they’re safe, and only their own arteries to clog
To sport the hero’s smile, parades and accolades
Until eyes grow cloudy, until their memory fades
Now the great unknown is mostly known by most
Unless sun, moon and stars align, or so they post
Still, great discoveries will still occasionally occur
Yet I doubt your average wage-slave would concur
