People Over Politics, World Over Wealth!

The fog dampens the sound and the ground
Shortens our view while hiding the familiar.
Boats, rocks, headlands vanish and reappear
Where they’re expected but also unexpected.
Waves murmur and mumble along the shore.
We stand up from a bench, brief rest behind.
Walking, to return to where we started from.
On a different route initially, until we arrive.
Slight variation, with a turn here, pause there
Along our trail, serves to alter our trajectory.
Find the only constant is the radiant flowers
Bright California and Matilija poppies deep
Oranges, yellows, white with yellow centers
Like eggs sunny side up, their yolks shining.
These only the beginning of my day’s smiles.
Electric yellow roses, pastel cousins, corals.
Friendly people and waiting on every corner
A stranger’s greeting. Jupiter’s Beard, lilies
Bloom, sweet William, golden mustard and
Pale Yarrow. Ofttimes, someone calls hello.
I marvel at lupine, purple and lemon yellow.
Yellow, my favorite color; it lifts my mood
Flowering cactus, California thimble-berry,
Wild radishes and petaled white blossoms.
Nascent berries near sticky monkey flower.
Hidden white, blue, coral flowers, plants
I can’t name, dot the border of our path.
Ocean sounds recede behind us now and
We reach for the end of our day, this time.
As constant flowers bloom in their season.
