People Over Politics, World Over Wealth!

Butterfly Night ~ Philip Brent Harris

And again, today I got reminded
Western Monarch butterflies hover,
2,000 left, on the edge, extinction.
Because I imagine we are as well,
I cannot imagine that this matters.

What’s that? You think I am crazy.
There are over 7 ½ billion people
On the planet; most aren’t like us.
When the coasts flood, fire rages,
We’ll move inland, closer together.

So, when the next coronavirus hits,
Evolved variations harder to fight,
It’ll spread more quickly. So what?
Don’t you wonder who’ll survive?
Who will get care, food and water?

Pollinators are in decline, so food
Will become less available. Water
Is already an issue; it’ll get worse.
When aquifers are drained dry by
Desert cities, agribiz, the Nestle’s

Then what? Do we water lawns or
Carwashes, failing crops or save it
So all people may drink or affluent
Folks who can buy your share and
All the goodies you love the best?

Oh, don’t worry, you’ll likely eat.
Insect protein’s rich, when veiled
As your favorite steak, snack chip.
Still, you will suffer from the lack
Of food, care, if not die; just wait.
