People Over Politics, Survival Over Surrender, World Over Wealth!
On the Move ~ Philip Brent Harris

Tree shadows dappling
the trail before me
call to mind
other times and
other walks in the woods.
I stand dwarfed
beneath an elder
Redwood, ancient
beyond my reckoning.
Nearly impossible
to imagine or comprehend
all this tree knows.
Standing until
it falls and
even then
it feeds its progeny,
nourishes its neighbors.
It cleans the air,
Creates myriad
spaces, places
where much small life
may find a home
for a time, a season.
All changed
the next turning.
Not gone, but
rearranged, new
configuration
Of the cosmos.
Expressing life
in ways
we no longer
know how to see.
In the existence
of a tree, a rock
we are small life
who has lost
the knowledge,
the ability
to not only
be part of the world
but also
be the world
attuned so completely
that we do not
need to analyze.
The knowledge is ours
as it is
to all the life
we see surrounding us.
We no longer know
it cannot surround us.
For it is us
and we are it.
