What Would You Do?

What Would You Do?

                                                                                Sarah Serious, Too ~ Philip Brent Harris

~~~~~
When my father told me, late in life,
His regret he’d never gone to Spain.
Might as well have said, play the fife.
I wish I’d have asked him to explain.
I think it had to do with the romance,
an odd allure of the revolution there.
Told as if the greatest freedom dance;
If he’d gone, been killed, no me here.
Just the thought of war sickens me.
Missed Vietnam; unlike some I knew.
To me, it always was sheer insanity.
Some say necessity, I think it untrue.
When madmen force us to participate.
Evil fools who drive my land, others.
All one people, fall to the same fate;
Climate collapse ends all our mothers.
I think my Dad felt youth’s passion.
If all life fails, may change my mind.
Harm any I love, I’d not bet cash on.
For me only, I’d show up and be kind.
