“War is Peace; Freedom is Slavery; Ignorance is Strength; Trumpery is Reality”

Saxophone was the instrument
I wanted to play when young
Now, I sit listening to plaintive
Notes play, paint mind pictures
Water thrown from a window
Greeted by a curse from below
As corner toughs point, laugh
School children smirking, run
When their mothers call them
Clattering up tenement stairs
Hollering goodbyes and laters
At each floor, till one remains
Looking down the tall stairwell
Lingering out as long as possible
Savoring freedom, the end of day
And the smell of dinner cooking
