A Mirror’s Glass in Darkness

Black and Light ~ Philip Brent

Black and Light ~ Philip Brent

Always give your heart to those you can
Everyone can hear what you might think
Every time you open your mouth, speak
Brilliant bon mots, also tarnished tropes
Spew like vomit when you’re distracted
At other times, though you feel focused
Creating is your being when ideas dance
Water beads sizzling in a searing skillet
Time, reason when you should not stop
Nor should you try; creation needs light
To shine brightest, provide illumination
Like a mirror reflecting bright sunlight

Darkness has equal place in the equation
Bright stars birthing in deep, black space
Our being, thoughts, ideas, love, laughter
Coalesce, condense in our subconscious
They push up and out, as growing shoots
Requiring the rich, dark soil to germinate
Collecting the loving nourishment of rain
Tears and tending, kept well-fed and safe
No doubt, some are short-lived or weeds
No matter how bright their initial bloom
Many which seek light too soon to thrive
Needs must return to darkness to survive
