A Tribute the Victors and the Fallen
A Wish Granted, A Dream Denied
Bright displays fill the air, as fireworks boom
Young baseball fan’s world filled with gloom
One team must win, one lose, no other way
At seven, eight or nine, you dream only today
Celebrating raucously, the fans’ hearts flying
Remember little boys, girls went home crying
This, too, shall pass; a story ends, one begins
Baseball returns in Spring; we can hope again
Victors crowned; honor all who battled tonight
Warriors all; our respect is their due by right
Rejoice, don’t gloat; live or die with your team
A missed play, a swing ends your child’s dream
So wear your new crown to do your city proud
Just for the moment, may brag right out loud
Only know that small actions of fate hold sway
The baseball gods will smile for others one day
