Toe Jammin’ aka Feet of Oil ~ Brent Harris
~~~~~
I can hear the naysayers already.
What fool would ever shun shoes?
Hear me out. That’s all I ask you.
While I understand shoes benefit,
I espouse it’s less than we’ve lost.
Going barefoot made us cautious
When every step held danger, pain
‘neath our ambulation. Even death,
May await any distracted attention.
Bad outcome, I’d say; not all bad.
We were more aware of everything
We moved more slowly, connecting
Not only to Earth, but all around us.
We place barriers between our bodies
And the sensations that keep us safe.
Yes, we would have tender feet
At least for a little while, although
We would adapt in time, you know.
Calloused feet tread more slowly
Than any foot, however it is shod.
Thus, impeding exploration and
Conquest. Can you see my point?
Fewer wars and smaller death toll.
Perhaps no colonies and no guns
Germs or steel, without invasions.
Yes, we would sacrifice so-called
Civilization; we’d gain community.
Still, we would continue advancing.
We would be more in tune, I think
With rapport and respect of all life.
No doubt, it’s much too late now.
Though, if we fought wars without
Boots. Limped get to work on time,
We might then understand our truth.
Sure, eliminating weapons of war
Would accomplish more. It’s a start.
