People Over Politics, World Over Wealth!

Dangling Conversation ~ Philip Brent Harris

Soldier straight,
Their brother stands,
Their sister stands.
While they reach out
Their untouched hands.
We step beneath
Their outstretched arms,
Unable to imagine all
Myriad and costly harms.
Cost of life, of hope, in pain
Dwarfing any envisioned gain

Humankind is anything but kind.
We need but look to find
Animal, vegetable and mineral
And we will ensure their fall.
Short or tall, thin or stout,
Whatever your description,
Without doubt,
Humanity rushing on, destroys.
We but play, still girls and boys.

Where is the mother,
The father to call us home?
Neither earth nor god can perform
The task which needs doing.
We, all people, must stop.
Look where we are going.
Though there is only now,
Look to the past
Plan for the future, learn how.

Connect with all the world and
Do your best to understand.
Do not tally gain or loss,
Do not calculate the cost.
Put politics, economics,
Religion and war aside.
We cannot afford to hide,
In group, tribe or nation;
All headed toward
The same destination.
Death, most certainly,
but something more immediate
How we will live, you see.

Choose love, refuse hate,
Before we become late.
We must choose to unlearn
The narrow vision
We have been taught,
Before we burn.
Away to naught
Or do you envision
Nuclear winter, pandemic,
Nullifying any thought of maps,
Some other dire catastrophe?
Caused by crazy leaders,
Rich misers, fools, bigotry..

Overoptimistic, I may be,
but I hope you will draw near.
A moment’s silence so you may hear,
Listen to my plea.
We already know
Have chosen the ways we’ll die.
Will no one else ask why
We all do not use
All that we have to give?
What is there to lose,
If we all stop and choose
How we will live?
