In Each Moment

Bird and Butterfly ~ Philip Brent Harris

Wrote these words

     To pen a thought

about a time now unknown,

far in the past or the future.

I struggled when I found

     the past too obscure,

the future becoming now

     in each moment that passes.

Might as well try reading braille.

The more that I thought

        the more puzzled I became

as I wondered who my fear was impeaching.

        If I found an answer,

a balm for my wounds,

would it matter what did the teaching?

What time did I seek

in the past or the future

that blind men might know?

My braille their map, an atlas

to lead me to every new feeling.

     Could it be simply this

that we each add a spark

to our piece of the whole

and not one of our moments

        may be missing?

Whatever road we are on,

        we must then quicken.

And that time will see all

        the steps of our days,

like a dance unknown,

        which we must master

to finish the figure.

     If we stumble this time,

we will try again,

        practice until we learn it.

Rest and return to begin.
