What happens when you need to change
Your mind, your direction, your daily life?
Based on new circumstances, bad or good.
Life intervenes, demanding you to choose,
Take another path you never want to walk.
A serious accident, the death of someone
Near to you, a love, someone close, gone.

When my mother-in-law died it changed
My life. You know the edge of the knife.
You try to prepare, what’s not understood
Is the breadth of everything you will lose.
A friend gone, choices, patterns, you balk.
Nearly five decades was shockingly gone;
It all becomes lost, nothing can be done.

Time and tide urge us accept the strange,
When sadness and unusual times are rife.
Grief never leaves, no longer daily food.
Some succumb to demons, drugs, booze.
With love, support, the pain will unlock.
You will find a new you there to be won;
Your old life there, but not the same one.
