Copland — Quiet Town

Blue Mood ~ Philip Brent

Blue Mood ~ Philip Brent

I never made it inside to hear the program
Though I remain certain I arrived on time
Up and back pacing, words, feelings raging
A brassy shout, complaint, perceived injury
Iniquity, injustice, sighs, prudent acceptance
Neither earth-shattering nor life-threatening

I listen then from outside of the concert hall
Captured finally, soulful music plaintive rings
Thoughts fly as I float deep within the sound
Triumphant horn conquering hushed strings
Morose rejoinder sings from far distant shore
Notes, silence, dark to light, incomplete alone
