People Over Politics, World Over Wealth

The message said, conversation deleted forever
and I tried to imagine what that would be like.
No talking, no texting, no sign language. All gone.
No written language, no books; since books are
nothing more than conversations from other times.
No history, no mystery, no song, Don’t sing along.
Bookstores would be gone, without genre, section,
or magazine. Forget bookmarks, even the kind that
only have cute pictures. Never again to be able to
say, I love you, I hate you, you’re funny or sad.
We’d have no more spurious executive orders, but we
would also have no laws. Again, conversations over
time. Would we know where we live without street
signs? We could neither invite anyone over, nor tell
them how to get to our house, We could smile and
wave to our neighbors, but never know their names,
never learn anything about them or about their history.
How would we think? Like primitive humans, I guess.
Yet, I fear the world would be anything but silent, as
we honk our horns, scream, trying to communicate.
