Girl, 3, shoots, kills sister, 4, in NW Harris County,
Houston TX–3/12/2023
One more bullet shot from one more gun.
You are sure this must be all; the last one.
Yet, once more death and once more pain.
We watch it splatter another stupid stain.
One more child becomes unable to reply.
Is there even a reason for us to ask why?
One more lax instant kills one more child;
questions of neglect, a police report filed.
One more parent disputes they need help.
Why should we care; it is not our whelp?
One more gun nigh, and a child lies slain.
Still, we refuse to act; we must be insane.
One more journey into our wasted land;
where we find no place it’s safe to stand.
One more empty prayer, gun law delayed
Little boys with guns and greed displayed
If we had no bullets would gun-lust sate?
Are we so broken we can’t shut that gate?
Is there time to fix all that’s gone wrong,
As guns murder the last note in our song?
