Divide and Conquer ~ Philip Brent Harris

Another week of bad news
With the greedy folks in charge,
Telling us they did nothing
Wrong. And for them, at least
That is nothing but the truth.

Because they don’t care
About you or about me, although
I have the correct skin color
Through an accident of birth.
Nothing more than that.

No, we are not in the club of money.
Sometimes different colors may
Be admitted, if they’re good.
Or if they have enough money.
Then the color of prejudice is green.

Only for a little while, really.
No one should get comfortable
Not unless the world changes.
Since climate change alone
Will not unite us, is it too late?

I suppose we could pray
That aliens from space would
Invade. Though we’d still squabble
Like children over who’s
The most important victim.

If the 99% are so easily divided
By those who profit from our pain,
We should toast to our extinction.
Our herd mentality prevents herd
immunity, driven from truth.

Clever lies which hold us captive,
Convince some they can regain
A status which they never held
Except by dint of those in power.
A stroke that keeps us split in twain.

Diversity is Unity, Empathy is Empowerment 

Unite the World!
