Started on 12/31/20
I think of all the flowers I may not know
And all the trees I cannot correctly name.
I pass many hours, neither high nor low.
If I could identify flora, it’d be the same.
Yet, tomorrow the first day of a new year,
Time to face what I hope and what I fear.
And all the trees I cannot correctly name.
All the animals and birds which fly away,
Far less than a tenth of those in the game.
Despite all my ignorance, I choose to stay.
I doubt I’ll study, learn more than a few,
Yet remark the beauty coming into view.
I pass many hours, neither high nor low.
Often, little to do with what I might see.
At my best, I do my best to ride the flow.
At my worst, dwell on worst I might be.
But now, find a new boat and sail away.
Fix my thoughts, stilling the wind today.
If I could identify flora, it’d be the same.
In a wide world and much I never found.
I must not hobble and pretend I am lame.
If true, still myriad ways I might astound.
While sometimes I no longer feel my best,
This is all a piece of my life’s infinite jest.
Yet, tomorrow the first day of a new year,
Adieu to days of pandemic, bigotry, hate.
Welcome days we’d cherish hope, no fear.
Yet, this maybe the call of gods or of fate.
Could we choose to create our own future,
Not diagnose the patient sick, seek a cure?
Time to face what I hope and what I fear,
Draw upon every resource I have to live.
Let goodness, hope and love be all I hear.
Care for myself, others, choose to forgive.
Decide to live my life, best I’ve done yet.
Painting with all the colors on my palette.

You have a really good standard of work on your site It is so good, love this poem. I try to learn the names of flower and things but I’m too dense.

Thank you. Perhaps we are not too dense, but didn’t learn early enough. Like languages, most of us struggle if we begin too late in life.
