Morning obscured by swollen clouds,
rain-slicked streets offer no reflection.
I trudge on, collar high to ward damp,
as I round a corner, searching for you.
Frigid gale, shreds the vaporous veil,
ebbs, whispering, wishing, revealing,
our spinning dome of stars, galaxies,
modest corner of infinite space-time
Dazzling, radiant, luminous, lucent,
visible, my hazardous route looms,
constructed wildness, new-washed.
I stand, rooted, yearn, burn for you.
The city skyline looms ever-higher.
My fevered eyes scan upward, seek
your window to look into my soul.
There; a window by you reflecting.
I wrap courage around me, fragile
armor, shields frail skin and heart.
The bitter brink, my craven doubts
ignored, resume my pitiful pursuit.
Cautious steps become bold strides.
Morning yawns, almost awake now,
earth, night, day, self flow together
into my infinite battle against fear.
Perpetually bested in every dream,
cunning crushed, every nightmare,
sun in transit to be my champion.
Seek life in you, creator, destroyer.
Life, nourished, inspired, embraces
death, constant consort, waits calm,
to view the roads I have not taken.
Safe, I bite my thumb at the reaper.
I grant his power, fell lord, all ages.
In your love, he can never touch me.
If I die this moment, you’d hold me,
on the highest mountain to reveal all.
