People Over Politics, World Over Wealth

Children play, screaming their joy
at pitches that make adult ears cringe.
Huddled on the fringe, surrounded by
other age-mates. Have they forgotten
how to play? Any day, no more than
chores, opening and closing doors,
tending to dinner and turning off the
lights at night. Turning down the
heat, making sure everything is neat
Dance and sing, Make love with
wild abandoned. Remember the
child you were, the child you are,
like clouds upon the wall in the
twilight of an evening’s afternoon.
Do you wonder, will it come
too late? Will it come too soon?
