Brave sentinels stand silent, watch,
Patiently wait for their next attack.
Battle scars in evidence, some not.
Greensward stretches before them.
They simply watch, wait, exposed.
Wind and rain, fire and small life,
The hand of man the most deadly.
Still, all life dies; the quick dead.
Marvel then at their long life and
How strongly straight they stand.
