Flies in Amber ~ Philip Brent Harris

Am I listening to the nightingale,
the quail, the cuckoo or the lark?
Might I hear the chattering brook
full of little and much to convey?

Do I see the bunnies and the deer,
the puma, bobcat or coyote; if only.
Recognize the knowledge their lives
as predators are as essential as the
prey. Humans are sometimes both
which we may find bigly confusing.

Pretend plants aren’t aware beings
because they lack the obvious signs
of eyes, ears, noses and mouths. We
claim such choice is our prerogative.

Are we blinded by the coming storm;
consumed by, within its every second?
Can we but seek brief respites hidden
in the eye of the tempest to observe,

creating truth, beauty, truth in beauty.
When we must act out because others
feign ignorance or the powerful exert
their control while damaging all life.
Before alpha, past omega ad infinitum.
