How did we learn to be so selfish?
So many think only of themselves.
Is it simply that we are stupid, too
and cannot comprehend anything?
As more people become infected,
number grows of people who die.
Will it take the death of someone
you love to punch you in the eye?
Will such a blow prove enough to
understand a leader you trust lies?
Will you realize he is a conman
who used cronies to distract you?
Mirrored your fears and robbed
you blind; they never believed in
you or cared one whit about you.
You have been taught to see those
who look like you as people who
deserve the world served up on
platter. Your plate looked empty
or so you were told and thought;
they convinced you darker folk
ate all your share. They rolled in
the dough that would’ve bought
bread to nourish you, your kin.
Parents, children, husbands, and
wives will be taken by COVID.
As you wonder what happened
since you were told it’s a hoax.
So you bring your guns and hate
demand that they turn back time.
You threaten people who tell the
truth, trying to help you survive.
Don’t know why you think you
should live so other people die.
And I know I’ll get no answer
to the what, the where and why.
I hope in the future you learn
that we value you, wonder why?
