A Rising Tide ~ Philip Brent Harris

I look around the room where sit and
See memories, touchstones to the past.
Reminders of the present time, of love
For those who make the view special,
Who share the view and make it richer.
Some who have gone; I’ve never met
Them, yet they helped to form people
I love. Although we have only now,
Our past laid the foundation for who
We are. It helped us select and gather
The pieces we use in constructing our
Personalities and live within who we
Value, who we cherish how we think.
It informs our tolerance our prejudice,
Our beliefs, our religion and our faith.
Many things I see I have known a half
Century, my wife, her family longer.
Yet, each helps define me by choices
I’ve made and the home my wife and
I have created together with our love.
