Close Your Eyes

Selling the Past as the Future ~ Philip Brent Harris
~~~~~
What will we find in the future
That follows us from the past?
Will it bring us sickness or cure;
Do you think that it might last?
Do we see if we close our eyes,
Bright stars sail the heavens?
Which ingredients help us rise;
Drinks we’ll make with leaven.
Here I sit, graying beard and hair
Listen to a graybeard play life.
Source of time ebbs slow, spare,
Other times full of joy and strife.
Movement unto movement flows
To moment unto moment in time.
So I’ll consider how little I know.
Pursue it through music, rhyme.
Light inside us, sometimes deep.
We see it as only pale reflection.
If lucky, reminded what it takes,
See outer light by introspection.
