Paint, brushes and a blank canvas, where do I begin?
Decide what areas stay empty; what will be filled in
I imagine my artwork upon a second-hand shop floor
Stuck behind a velvet Elvis, banged into by the door
Maybe I will tickle your fancy, so on the wall I’ll go
I hope I will be the rare find on Antiques Road Show
makes some person blush, throw up both their hands
Say, “Really?” consider selling no matter their plans
Sentiment is wonderful, .legacies a link through time
Money gets you in the club, helps you begin to climb
I advise against the burden, easy life in your own hall
It’s trite but true, higher you climb, the longer you fall
Unless, like me, you always yearned to be able to fly
You must first achieve the heights before you even try
I’d be tempted, though know I never could or should
Off a hundred story tower, each floor, so far, so good
Stupid, I understand, though part of me thinks it great
Experiencing my most elusive dream, even come so late
I’d be falling, not flying, still I’d once have been on top
And, it’s not the fall that kills you, it’s the sudden stop!
