People Over Politics, World Over Wealth

It’s been over two weeks and I still do not understand how someone could do this.

Half my age and she had no idea
that morning would be her last one.
She’d dropped her children at school.
Did she hug them and kiss them, as
if she would never see them another
day? This moment her last moment.

Twice her age, I lack the wisdom to
tell you of the pain left by her passing.
Witnessed by her wife, who must tell
their children they’ll see her no more.
Yet her image is everywhere, on every
television screen; not called the same.

Shame too weak a word to describe
Renee Nicole Good’s horrid murder.
So sad, so unnecessary. What prompt
triggered this heinous action? Not one
shot, but three. One for each child, who
will live with this awful death forever.

Will her murderer live with this horror
all the days of his life? Has he already
put it aside, hidden it in the hole in his
humanity. I hope this is not the case. I
pray, he is not so damaged he forgets
the terror he’s done to too many lives.

And my brother wonders about Good’s
relationship with ICE. I wonder what
that even means, how it stops a veteran
agent from shooting a tire, the engine,
or simply into the air? “I’m not mad at
you, dude,” her final words to her killer.

Shot from the side, these are not words
of a woman trying to run a man down
with her car. Not how it was portrayed.
Called a domestic terrorist and then a lie
that an ice agent has total immunity from
prosecution for a cold-blooded murder.
