Power Surge ~ Philip Brent Harris

I sit on the sidelines, wanting
to play this game called life.
I would take the stage, play
hero or villain. Though I have
read actors enjoy playing villains
because they are more
complex, more challenging, I’d
choose to be the hero, even if
that makes me a bore. Boring and
one-dimensional, yet saving the day,
while the villain is led away in chains.
Left over from my youth, when
I played superheroes with friends
who followed my lead, donning
masks and towel capes, to race
outdoors through backyard
Gothams which only we saw.
