Has the problem always been with
us? I wonder. What do you think?
Do you ponder the slow notes of
the piano? Wonder at the length of
time the sustain pedal is depressed.
Surely, an odd way to look at life.

It is close to the truth, despite that.
Billionaires, politicians, lobbyists.
All those who play the instruments.
The rest of us but the sustain pedal.
Pressed to see how long we scream.
The concert persists, no matter what.
