People Over Politics, World Over Wealth

Seeking Truth 4.2 ~ Philip Brent Harris
Find the truth found beneath the
pounding of your heart. Wailing
notes that capture human voice.
We melt, flow into the cosmos,
until we blend, are rendered lost.
Still, in silence we return to our
beating hearts, we know the part
we play. We’re changed. Unused
thoughts, feelings filling our days
and hours. We’ve gained empathy
for those who live a distance from
us in time, place, or circumstance.
Suddenly, we know answers with
certainty defying logic or reason.
We’ll dance, sing, talk excitedly.
We eat, drink, live till life’s table
has been cleared, then reminisce.
On the dance floor a lone couple
who might be us, turn in the slow
circles that are the moves of love.
Certain with each other by touch
alone, an emotional osmosis. We
turn, sit, watch till the musicians
depart, the chairs are stacked and
each light winks out one by one.
Still, we dance and watch, as we
move to an unheard melody and
walk away. We’ll return when the
lights blaze again, the dance floor
is freshly polished and tables set.
Outside, though, is a dark alley.
What lurks there chases is home.
We don’t know what it is and we
do not want to discover which
monster waits for us in the dark.
What if it is merely truth, beauty?
Frightening because demand so
much. If we embrace them, there
is no time or place to step away;
They have always been with us.
