Shell Game ~ Philip Brent Harris

Plod now across the windswept land. Dry
as the bones, long sun-bleached, forgotten.
Searing brightness blinds us and the grains
of gray sand are so sharp, they cut our feet.
We can find nowhere to pause, sit, and rest.

Trudge onward. No sign of water, except the
ever-present mirages. Brought to you by big
industry, bad government, the gun lobby, the
corrupted bigots, bastards seen everywhere.
Keep chasing until you go blind, start to see.

Still, if you see the con, they’ll distract you
with war and rumors of war, failed economy,
Different battles, but the same endless war.
Is there reason it should make a difference,
any difference in our humdrum daily lives?

Wind blows and sunlight shines, too fierce,
too heated, and too bright to forge onward.
Shall we shelter all day in empty aquifers,
fear exposure by night’s neon advertising?
Until we no longer see the wonder of stars.

Diversity is Unity, Empathy is Empowerment

Peace is Purpose, Nonviolence is Strength,

Unite the World
