Scream Piercingly

Where Air Becomes Breath ~ Philip Brent Harris

Can we ever comprehend tragedy
Our own or another’s, man-made
force majeure; called acts of God.
Cry softly as you sing a lullaby to
a child who’s unaware. Too small
to understand. Big enough to feel
pain; theirs and yours combined.

Wail at all we have lost, wasted.
As though people have no value.
Pogroms, extermination camps
some profess not to believe ever
existed, despite harsh evidence.
Needless and endless war rages
Living or fighting, innocents die.

Scream your pain piercingly and
let it stabs the ears of the people
Who believe that they are better.
The reason nearly doesn’t matter.
My tears drip onto the page in
Sadness and frustration, unable
To discover a way, allow others
To cry softly, wail and scream,
to forget our learned prejudices
Seeing all merely a scrim of lies.

Peace is Purpose, Nonviolence is Strength,

Diversity is Unity, Empathy is Empowerment
