Tissue Thin, Full of Blood

Cowards Blood

Coward’s Blood ~ Philip Brent Harris

~~~~~
Rooting out everything we decide doesn’t belong
till we discover through our haste and hubris, we
tossed the nails and boards, left the toilet jammed.
We believe there can’t be a problem, since we’ll
move to another venue, continue the same play.
Except there’s no other place we can go or hide.
Not for most of us at any rate, not for us at all.
We, who do not have enough money or moxie .
So, we will get dumped in the shit, no thought.
Despite walls, armed guards standing before
the clever façades, sans help, hope. Since all
of it, in the end, tissue thin and full of blood .
It is and always will be only a different battle
in the same war we’ve waged always, forever.
with no sticks, stones, planes, tanks or bombs.
This is the war between greed and generosity.
This is war between ignorance and knowledge,
twixt harm and help, scarcity and abundance.
Still, it’s a war fought by people, men, women..
Uniformed, uniform, wearing their suits made
from money and oil and the blood of children.
Your children and their own, if truth be told.
I have none, yet still believe it reprehensible.
Fools think they’ll be long dead before time
can strike. I hope science and their folly meet.
That they buy extended life, watch their walls
 crumble and feel all the pain that they made.
