People Over Politics, World Over Wealth!

Strength in Numbers-2 ~ Philip Brent Harris

All our time, the hours spent practicing,
for most of us means little more than life.
Masters may be born with talent; it’s true.
Yet they are taught by other masters, while
we learn from other folk like me and you.
Our parents and their parents back in time.
Each set, we hope, learned a little more,
and better ways to impart life’s wisdom.
Though many repeat patterns unchanged,
Never guessing there may be other ways.
Not better, necessarily. Fuller all the same.
Their story with our story and all the others,
after a pot of gold, never seen as metaphor.
What then are we to seek and aspire to?
Not money, but also not the lies we are,
have been, and will be told about living.
We’re taught gathering more than others
is a mete, right, and a just thing to do.
We pretend it’s more than a tatterdemalion’s
story spun of air so sweet, we think it’s real.
Many of us eye the castles in the air, yearn,
wonder why we do not, cannot live there.
Rather, we should all be wondering when,
where, and how their occupants will fall
and what catastrophe will mark the spot.
Where will their greed and conceit splatter?
Surely some of us will take the deadly blow.
Much worse, we learn to support them,
bring them to life as remarkable as Tinkerbell.
Each a fantasy. The latter to divert attention
from changes we could make if we would stop
long enough to open our eyes and see the truth.

Diversity is Unity, Empathy is Empowerment
