Looking at my art, trying to decide why views don’t become purchases, I realized something. I rarely include people in my art. I’ve known this, but it somehow became more starkly real. Frankly, I think the planet might be better off without us. I don’t know if this is why I don’t include them or why I don’t sell more art, but I imagine it could be a contributing factor. I have people, but often painted in non-traditional ways. Green faces or less than flattering. Looking askance, broken up into four panels and painted as if on a stained-glass window or with a multiple exposure look. People are seen from the back or painted in an inverse of real-life colors. I have one, which is a portrait of the feet of another artist at her easel.

I actually have more traditional portraits in my digital paintings, though even these are not the staid poses of the planned pieces I’ve seen. These works combined with my current Renaissance Reimagined series, revamping famous works and morphing them into unique looks, combinations and social comment. These are imaginative and meaningful to me, but are they derivative? I had a hot run, painting through 2014 and 2015, but my output has slowed. I did well in those early forays, winning, placing and showing in multiple adjudicated shows online and in galleries. I also received four honorable mentions and I sold some work. I started doing more digital art, because of two shoulder surgeries and looked for another outlet.

Family need brought back to one of my other passions, writing. Being away from home and my easel and computer writing became easier. I could carry a notebook anywhere. I’m still writing, but am ready to get back to painting. There are obstacles, and 2020 has made my passion difficult to find. I would love to hear your thoughts. I’m struggling to administer this site to best advantage and could use any insights you may have.
