What a Lovely Little Girl ~ Philip Brent Harris

I wish I could find the wit to say
thoughts I wish to share this day.
I can’t; guess I will choose play.
or perhaps, at the moon, I’ll bay.
I know this is not wit, just silly,
that my reception may be chilly.

Thoughts I wish to share this day
are nothing more than who I am.
I might be awarded a sunny ray
or have less wisdom than a clam.
I don’t wish a clam to denigrate.
I haven’t asked one, so hesitate.

I can’t; guess I will choose play.
It’s something all must try to do
while wearing our animated clay.
It goes for me, as it goes for you.
Do greedy misers forget to smile,
laugh at nothing once in a while?

Or perhaps, at the moon, I’ll bay.
I’d prefer to choose daily escape
all life’s rules we’re told to obey.
I’d fly with no superhero’s cape.
We swiftly accept mortal bounds
Tie ourselves to mortal grounds.

I know this is not wit, just silly.
Silly’s a state for which I strive,
found in valleys where it’s hilly.
A great way to know I am alive.
Unclear what I mean, find out.
I believe it is what life is about.

That my reception may be chilly
almost goes without me saying.
My life can be simple or frilly.
Either way, you see me playing.
Lean back, relax, and just enjoy;
I swear that it is the real mccoy.
