People Over Politics, World Over Wealth!
Good times came and bad times came.
With our tale of travel and of separation.
Hitchhiked east; her dad sent plane fare.
She soared, Boston to Belmont; I stayed
to collect a debt, though I never could.
Maybe I stayed to bid adieu to moments
from my prior life, people I had known.
I hitchhiked back to the Bay Area, again
And I stayed with a friend, a connection
from my first California job. I called; she
wasn’t home. Our African sister taped a
message to her bedroom door, he’s back.
So at 2 am, she breezed into her parent’s
bedroom, informed them I had returned.
She flew the nest, ready to start our new
life, although unprepared for where we
first lived. A single bed in a tiny room.
Our friends’ baby cried and they fought.
Shouting obscenities; later we escaped.
