Bird and Butterfly ~ Philip Brent Harris

(The importance of negative space.)

I heard Monarch butterflies
migrating through California
have dwindled from millions
to around two thousand or so.
With them go the insects who
help pollinate all of our crops.
Will we pollinate by hand, let
plants not grow, trees perish?
Those we haven’t murdered to
butcher, to use as we choose.

Would it help, if each board or
cut of meat wear labeled with
a picture of the life sacrificed.
We are omnivores unchecked.
More we grow, worse we get.
Children grown, not grown up.
When will we realize the truth;
We let the bullied run the show.
If we mature, will we learn the
life sacrificed, may destroy all?
