I’m left to wonder, wander
the city streets at night,
pausing at stop signs and street
lights, limiting my solitude.
It’s late and no one else is abroad.
Could it be I’m nearly home and
I have but to move step by step into
the darkness. Slip my key into the lock
then, and open the door into my life.
