Night Garden With Fireflies ~ Philip Brent Harris

The evening slides down the sky,
slowly enveloping the sunset in a
dark cloak, spangled with jewels.
How we are drawn into these vast
depths. We smile, stare, and flutily
count what we see. Stay but briefly
and we begin to slow. Our thoughts
expanding, opening our being unto
growth, to recognize the vastness
as us. Gone the frantic pressure of
daily life, our needs, shoulds and,
oughts Yet, so rarely, our desires,
hidden in a sacred vault inside us.
What treasure it holds, though we
rarely examine it. May forget it.
As years accumulate, we wonder.
What happened to the child we
knew, we were, long ago? Will we
wonder, when did the light go out?
Without our essence, our deepest
meaning, we live lost in a dark
room. We know the sun exists,
but not how it looks and feels.
how it feeds us, nourishes us,
balances us against the darkness
outside us and within us, along
with the light. Oh, to share the
heart of who we truly are and the
reason we came, we must stand
patiently beneath the night sky.
