The children flit from shadow to shadow.
Hidden then exposed then hidden again.
What’s the danger? It is no longer a game.
Explosion heard nearby, as our seas rise.
Weapons drumming staccato, as air burns
Earth is barren. Nothing will grow hence.
Grenades and mortar rounds launch even
in a late, glorious smog enhanced sunset,.
Feel the fire’s inferno racing nearer where
we stand at the very edge or the precipice.
We watch waves break on obdurate stone
secretly aware of our children sneaking up
behind. To try to push us off, if they can..
