Covered with Cat Hair

Entropy

My desk is by the window covered with cat hair
A short leg on my chair makes it wobble when I sit
They offer me no hints, no answers, no this is it
So I go to check the frig, but find there only air

Everywhere I ride my bike  with two flat tires

To my local supermarketdrugstorebankcafe
Where I can find everything I want, they say
If all my needs in life can be filled by pretty liars

So I stock up on sundries, coffee, drugs and booze
True essentials to keep this, my time-filled life so sunny
Especially true now because I have so little money
Oh wait, it seems there’s nothing left to buy my food

At least the local water still seems to come for free
Fracked, I know, I know; I’ll always get a bill to pay
So I’ll light them both to heat my house and pray
I’ll eke out yet another wasted day, sans fee

I hear you laugh, chortle, snigger, snort and giggle
No fee, you say. How can you be such simple fools
We pay in stress, strain, hunger, fear: the system rules
On an angler’s hook from which we cannot wriggle

But wait, the bookstorebakerycardshopbookie tempts
To bring distraction, craving, condolences and hope
As we trade our sense and savvy for the latest soup or soap
We all will wait there end to end; no one can be exempt

Here I wait my turn midst commerce’s jangling ring
Hearing what they say to do, to buy, to be, to think
Struggling against the beast, ever closer to the brink
Hoping my feeble cries will others to their senses bring

If voice joins with voice, strength to strength together
Until we reach the tipping point; it’s out there, never fear
Their water cannons cannot wash us all away, my dear
Till the high pressure that we bring results in better weather

So now the cat hair’s on my pants, the drapes, the floor
My wayward chair shimmed level with a random bill
I don’t believe it said past due, though not long until it will
My words to send, flashing through the air, to add a little more
