Orange Dream ~ Philip Brent Harris

Quietly, I contemplate the stars,
numerous and wondrous. Billions
upon billions, more, in the Milky Way
alone. One galaxy among billions
upon billions. Thinking thus, I find my
life small, but marvelously complete.
Replete in ways I could not have
dreamed when I was young, for all my
bravado and misplaced ego, my fear
and cowardice, known and unknown.
Not in the ways you imagine or that
I was willing or able to admit then.
I dreamed and I still dream miracles,
large, in technicolor, though unseen,
while I failed to act, Since dreaming
was far safer, guaranteed from failure.
Surely, most must understand this.
How can I fail what I haven’t tried?
Still, dreams can find you when are
not looking as long as you are seeking,
still. Dreams, like love, they often come
when our guard is down, or when we
have forgotten completely there was
ever a particular dream we sought.
Even when discovered, they can hide,
within the blindness of our fear, the
darkness of our excuses, given and
found. Both ours, these excuses we
provide for our abject failure to act
in all the ways which are best for us.
