Identity, difficult to guarantee,
even when you firmly believe
you know exactly who you are.
One morning, look in the mirror,
you are certain it cannot be you.
Hearing your voice, somewhere,
know it must be somebody else.
Your clothes drape, bind, pinch,
yet, your keys are in the pocket.
House you’ve lived in for years,
refuses to look like your home.
Like reading a novel you loved
long ago and thinking, this isn’t
that book, not the one you read.
You must be an anthropologist,
forensic archeologist of your life.
Upending rocks to find first love.
Buried, torn, dusty, worn-down,
by your world zooming past you.
It keeps moving faster, no matter
how tightly, fiercely you hang on.
Until you find the truth and let go.
Peace is Purpose, Nonviolence is Strength, Diversity is Unity, Empathy is Empowerment
